Configure Server/Naming & URL Setup

IP Address configuration
Request an IP address for your web server from your network administrator.
If the server you plan to use already has an IP address, you will not need an  additional IP, unless there is already a web server (IIS, Apache, Sun One, etc.) running on this server. To determine if the server has an IP address, perform the following steps:

1. Open command prompt

2. Type Ipconfig. If there is no number next to the IP address, then you need to obtain one from your network administrator.

If there is another web server running on your server, you will need to either run the EEMS system on a different port than the standard port 80, or install an additional network card on your server. If you choose to install an additional  network card, you will need an IP address created for this card. This card will require its own connection to the network.

If the server is currently running Microsoft IIS web server, and you choose to install a separate network card so that both the IIS web server and the EEMS's web server may run on the same port, then you will need to disable socket pooling in IIS. Please refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base article 259349 for more information.

Site URL configuration

Choose a name for your EEMS web site (e.g., eems.yourcompany.com) and have it added to your DNS (Domain Name Server)

  • The name of your site should contain your company's domain suffix (e.g., yourcompany.com)

  • The site name should be associated to your IP address from the previous step in  the DNS server.

  • This name will be tied to your site activation key which will be sent to you after you  complete your EEMS installation

  • This name will also be used by your employees/users to access the EEMS system via the internet.

Firewall configuration

Configure your firewall to allow access

  • If you wish for users outside your firewall to access the EEMS system, you must open the web server's port on your firewall.

  • The default port is set to 80. If you change this port number during the installation process, you will need to open the new port on your firewall to your server to allow access.

  • If you are securing your site with an SSL certificate, then the default SSL port 443  must be opened on your firewall. If you change this port number during the  installation process, you will need to open the new port on your firewall to your server to allow access.
